Well Blue Velvet Bar & Nightclub is coming to an end after 13years and I’m pleased to announce that the new owners will be continuing to run the place as a nightclub/lounge venue. The venue will continue under a new name and be open all week. They are well experienced operators and have 5 new nights soon to be unleashed on Melbourne’s nightlife.

Elisabeth & I would like to thank all the people who made Blue Velvet what it was. We had a wild ride, and won’t ever forget the myriad of personalities who came and went, the celebrations, the passion for individual expression, and lastly the music that touched us all. Thanks to all our friends and goodbye for now.

La Bruce, directed by Angelique Bosio, this
rivetting film introduces you to the amazing
cinema art of Bruce LaBruce, and describes the
influential and transgressive cultural impact he
has had. The second documentary (to be played
before Advocate of Fagdom) is a new short
about the Melbourne Hellfire club by Mark
Bakaitis of Narcosys fame. To be followed by
Hellfire at 9.30pm.

Ben Pobjie’s Funeral will run from 6 April-17 April, except for Monday and Tuesday, at 8.30pm, and will take place in the lush surrounds of Blue Velvet Bar and Nightclub, at 60 Smith St, Collingwood, a lovely spot indeed.

Tickets are $20, $15 concession, but for the the first two nights, a SPECIAL PREVIEW PRICE of $10 applies!

What is Ben Pobjie’s Funeral all about? It’s about one man’s quest to make sense of life and death, and get people to say nice things about him while he’s still around to appreciate it. It will deal with such urgent issues as:

- The meaning of life
- The meaning of death
- Zombies
- Cyclists
- The life cycle of the Port Jackson shark
- Wacky posters
- Jesus
- And many more

2011 is a big year in the making. Special feeling in the air don’t you think? It’s also my birthday next week – 33 years I been running amok.

Which is a very good excuse to do a gig, have a party and launch a new CD.

So kids, be at Blue Velvet on Friday January 21st at 8pm ’cause it’s a fucking Smarty Party!

Aside from lounging around the bar and making witty comments over a martini glass, I will be launching the ‘Hey, That’s Just A Bunch of Love Poems!’ album and also performing the first ever Melbourne version of ‘Wild Optimist – The Rises and Falls of a Performance Poet’ in its original Brisbane format. That’s with original soundtrack and costume changes and all the bells and whistles.

Plus secret special guests. So special they don’t even know about it yet.

And we’ll drink in moderation of course. Because it is a party and poets are a sensible lot . . .

The evening starts at 8.30 pm, playing the “Unknown Pleasures” portion of Peter Hook and the Light’s performance recorded live at the Palais Theatre, Melbourne, Australia on September 24th this year, then followed by a Joy Division/New Order special, related artists and indie from the 80’s into the night.
